Volkswagen revises and improves its Tiguan for 2022

The Tiguan is one of the most popular models in the Volkswagen stable. It's only natural that it should enjoy special care within the family, and the company is giving us a nice proof of that for 2022. For the mid-point of its production cycle, it's been redesigned and upgraded to the point where it's virtually unrecognizable.

Consumers are in for a nice surprise with the 2022 Tiguan. Here's what's in store for them when they discover the model.

New design

You won't have any trouble recognizing the Tiguan, but you will notice one thing in 2022; it's better looking than ever. That's due to a redesigned front fascia, or the illuminated grille you'll find with some versions. Also, the 17-, 18-, 19- or 20-inch wheels, depending on the model (Trendline, Comfortline, Comfortline R-Line and Highline R-Line), are all new and nicer than ever.

In short, the Tiguan knows how to be seen and it lets itself be admired.

More luxurious

The Tiguan hasn't moved up a category, but seeing the improvements on board makes it look like it's moved into a luxury segment. New colors, better materials, a multimedia interface with modern touch controls, and 30-color ambient lighting are all available in the new model.

New mechanical configuration

The Tiguan hides a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine under its hood, which suggests a capacity of 184 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. Nothing changes on that front. As for the transmission, the eight-speed automatic unit is still in place.

So why are we talking about a new mechanical configuration? Simply because the transmission parameters have been reworked so that it makes better use of every ounce of power available to it. The result is convincing behind the wheel; it actually feels like the Tiguan has inherited a new mill.

And as a bonus, Volkswagen offers 4Motion all-wheel drive as standard equipment from the start. Safety first.

With all these changes, the Tiguan is more interesting than it has ever been. That's why a visit to the dealership, followed by a test drive, is essential to fully understand how much the model has been improved for 2022.
